Understanding Maps Through a Fun, Hands-On Activity
At Hello Kids Flamingo Preschool & Day Care Centre, Malad West, children explored the world of maps, directions and places around them through an engaging hands-on learning activity. 🗺️✨
Our young learners worked together to create and understand a simple school map, identifying different areas and placing labels such as Junior KG, Nursery, Playgroup and other important spaces. This activity introduced children to the basic concept of how maps represent places and help us understand our surroundings.
Through this interactive experience, children developed an early understanding of:
📍 Places and locations
🧭 Directions and spatial awareness
🗺️ Map reading and visual representation
🤝 Teamwork and collaboration
🧠 Observation and problem-solving skills
✂️ Fine motor skills through cutting, placing and labelling
Rather than simply learning about maps from a book, children were encouraged to create, observe, discuss and explore. Such hands-on activities make learning more meaningful while building important skills for everyday life.
